I can't record sound thru my mic, except using arecord.

I can hear it thru my speakers, so I know the mic works.

But with krec, no actual levels, nothing.

Ideas?

Try fiddling with controls in kmix ("Input" tab), if you have multiple microphone jacks the wrong one might be selected as active. Also what you think is a microphone jack could possibly be line-in it's called "Line" in kmix, make sure the little red button is lit up (green means playback, red is capture). Also another useful trick that I found was to mute the playback on your mic and instead turn on "Play through" in krec that way you are actually hearing exactly what is being recorded by krex (noise threshhold, capture volume etc are actually being applied).
