You just confirmed my opinion that you must be a M$ employee or something like that. Maybe you're just a troll for that matter.
Do you realize how sad it is that you simply dismiss my opinion, because it is defensive of an MS product?
I am not an MS employee and never have been. As I said, I think products should be judged on their technical merits, not by who creates the product.
This is a Linux forum, which should not automatically mean it is a lets-bash-windows forum. Making posts defending windows in a comparison between linux and windows should not be considered trolling, and it really is sad that this is how you see it.

I've been working in IT since 1992 and the last 8 years as a system administrator, always in a mixed environment (Windows/Linux/Unix), so that statement is out the door already
You realize how hard that is to believe right?

You seem to be more used to the Windows desktop then to other, hence your preference I think. Furthermore stating that Windows is not insecure just makes me (and I'm sure a lot of admins along with me) laugh out loud.
Instead of resorting to childish insults, would you be interested in trying to qualify your arguments?
For what it's worth, I would say that I have an equal experience between windows and linux. I prefer Windows for the desktop because It is a better platform for games and multimedia. It's that simple..

Since you seem to be such a Windows adept, I'm not even giving the rest of your statements the least attention. In my opinion you are just making lots of statements based on some pro Windows web or something like that instead of being based on reality or personal experience for that matter.
Are you familiar with the phenomenon known as confirmation bias? Just curious.
I think it is sad you took my arguments as being pro windows. I am neutral, and like both equally. I am not saying Windows is better than Linux at all, I am simply saying it does not suck, and the criticisms you have made are false.
The rest is your interpretation, because in your world someone could not genuinely defend Windows and have experience or be pro-linux....

I know what I have experienced over the years working with multiple operating systems in various companies and countries. You can say what you want, it'll be a cold day in hell before you can prove your point to me in any way.
Good to see that you have an open mind and are willing to listen to reason.

Well, if you really insist, then I'll put in the time to respond to all of your statements, turning this thread in what it should not be, a discussion about the differences/advantages/disadvantages of Windows and Linux. But since I'm at the office right now, you'll have to exercise a little patience until I get home this afternoon.

Kind regards,
Eric
I would be interested if you were willing to take that to PM.
I have no interest in destroying the thread, and did not think my original comment would take the thread as of course as it did.
I just thought it was bad that you dismissed my opinion instantly, and that if I defend Windows then I *must* be an employee or not know what I am talking about...
If are willing to continua via PM then I will be interested, but like you I do not wish to destroy the thread more, and so will not be replying any further on that topic.
Amdx2_x64: I know you know what you're talking about because you use terms such as "black hatters" and "white hatters".
Wow. Love the way you have to point out things like that. Well since you did I will have to say that I made a typing error. But cool, if thats what you want to focus on and ignore the rest of what I say.
1 - I can't believe I let myself get sucked into this debate yet again. This thread wasn't even about this topic at all.
2 - I do not apologize for loving Linux. I just find it sad that there are a few that feel they need to be MS apologists.
With that said I am done with this debate. I love Linux and I am not a fan of MS. If others don't like that then, oh well.
Thank you. Exactly. I love Slackware. I went down into the basement over the weekend and brought back up my old PIII 667 MHz IBM 300PL and put it back into operation. I'm now running three Slackware 13.0 stations and two Slackware-current stations.
Very nice -current upgrades yesterday and today.
Yeah Fight Club focused me. I read the book and watched the movie. Slackware is that convenience store for me. The dead-end job.
Maybe Linux is.. It's like Chuck wrote in the book that you surround yourself by junk and clutter calling it valuable when it's really just junk.
Depending on your point of view it's whatever is keeping you from flying from your nest.
Are you teaching your kids to surround themselves by junk dreams of being rock stars, movie stars, and millionaires?
Most definitely I suspect people need to quit forcing their families to accept a dictatorship rule. If your kids are happy with Windows 7 starter edition running their $15 educational games by all means let them proceed in the bliss. At one time you yourself did as well.
We used to play Atari and not care it was written in some esoteric assembly language. Nor did we care that Noland had a monopoly. We loved paying $50 for Pacman. It was Bliss.
I let my kids pick whatever operating system they want. They pick up a $5 Disney game and I don't have to worry about fighting wine to make it run. Left-Foot Red, Right-Hand Green. Twister go.
The truth is most companies are running Windows server and Windows Enterprise. They're using ASP.Net/IIS. System Administrators program in VBscript/Windows Scripting Host. The facts are that I will eventually introduce my children to software development and system administration. They will have a job skill before they even go to college.
I will even teach them some Linux / Unix skills.
What I won't do is force them to have to cobble together their operating system as they go.
I have personally have no love for Microsoft but I will admit that I like XP for a few things and Windows 7 looks nice but I will wait since Slackware comes first for me. I could give many reasons why I like linux over M$ but it really comes down to this for me...
In 10 years slackware/linux has only randomly crashed on me twice.
Windows errors on something at least every few hours. I guess for me stability is more important than ease of use. I'm not afraid to learn something while most PC users dont want to think they just want to do. But that "ease of use" comes at too high a cost.
