AVG Free version on Slackware

I was wondering if anyone has gotten the free edition of AVG Anti-Virus installed properly in Slackware 11. I have downloaded both the Red Hat and SuSE versions from the website (since they do not offer the source apparently), but when I convert them to tgz files and then install them, I am asked for a valid serial number. I have a SuSE 10.2 computer as well, and the install works as intended on this, of course. If anyone has any information on this, I would appreciate it. Thanks.

I use ClamAV instead.
AVG is a closed source, so don't expect to find sources here

Sorry, I didn't mean to suggest source, rather a file in tar.gz format like their retail offering. I would like to get AVG free working in Slackware. Any suggestions or success stories?

I tried this a few years ago out of curiousity. Wasn't very good, IMHO. There are way better anti-virus programs available for linux, if you really need one. Anyways, to get the registration number try the following:
Code:
rpm -qip --scripts <package>.rpm |grep register
then do:
Code:
avgscan -register <registration number>

I've actually tried the latter, with the

Code:
avgscan --register <registration number>
but I received an invalid license key error when doing so. I'll try the other method as well. The main thing is that this shouldn't need to occur, since the SuSE package installed properly the first time w/o the need to enter a license key. Something must be going on behind the scenes that differs in the way that possibly files are placed or are registered between a SuSE and Slackware install. Perhaps I can try tailing the install on SuSE to see where all files are going?

Can't you just unpack rpm and run it locally? Then you'll see if it really requires a license. Maybe it checks uname and if it isn't RH or Suse, it asks for key.
