Unhappy auto power off in kernel 2.6

I have installed kernel 2.6, but I just can't get auto power-off work. I have enabled "Use real mode APM BIOS call to power off" when I compiled the kernel. Could somebody give me an advice?
thanks.

Try disable APM and enable ACPI (built-in):

AC Adapter
Battery
Button
Fan
Processor

What's my config.. good luck!

It's a kernel option. Go to /usr/src/linux, type make menuconfig (or your preferred way of configuring your kernel) then select ACPI and the approriate sub options.

At least that's what I did - but I don't know if you have to change anything in your init scripts or anything. I don't think so, I guess once you do this it just works? Am I missing anything?
