Audio driver question

Recently I purchased a new motherboard (ASUS M4A78T-E). The onboard sound chipset is VIA VT1708. After installing Slackware 12.2 the audio was not working. I ran both alsaconf and alsamixer. The correct driver modules are installed and running.

I did some research and came across this site:

http://driverscollection.com/?H=VT1708&By=VIA&SS=Linux

I have a pair of USB headphones that I can plug in and they work automatic. It's my speakers that are connected to what I presume is "the south bridge" that is the problem.

My question is if I install this will it conflict with ALSA? Is there a alternative workaround anyone knows about for this issue?

When I go to the URL you provide I only see windows drivers listed and they won't work, however, the info on http://www.viaarena.com/default.aspx...0&SubCatID=154 seems to indicate that alsa was working OK around 2007.

I'f I were you I'd figure the driver is working if I can use headphones but there is a setting wrong somewhere that prevents sound out or the speakers socket and could this be due to a bios setting or a jumper on the mobo. I'd check out what the mobo manual says first.
