Are there inconveniences removing the console login getty for tty1 in runlevel 4?

Currently we have this line in /etc/inittab:
Code:
c1:12345:respawn:/sbin/agetty --noclear 38400 tty1 linux
I consider replacing it in Slint by:
Code:
c1:1235:respawn:/sbin/agetty --noclear 38400 tty1 linux
This is to avoid that, when speech is enabled, the user hear the login message and the display manager greeting's message at the same time, which is rather confusing. I inserted a "sleep <a few seconds>" before starting the display manager in rc.4.local, but that's still far from perfect.

The only inconveniences that I see with this modification is that tty1 becomes unavailable for input (but we could add a login console on another tty), thus if one needs to kill X if the graphical environment is frozen, it can't be done anymore pressing Ctrl+C in tty1 (but still a kill command can be typed from another tty, assuming that the keyboard still works).

Other than that, would this modification have any inconvenience?

Comments appreciated.

The getty line defines what to do with character based logins. I don't think removing it for run level 4 would have any impact on your X Windows GUI startup which is what I'm assuming is giving you the greeting you're trying to eliminate.

If you don't want the GUI startup you could use a lower run level such as 2 which is multiuser but does not start X.

What I want to avoid is that blind users of the Slint distribution who use it through speech hear the login message (displayed on the console) at the same time or just before the message (window's description) from gdm or lightdm.

I don't think that there be any impact either but would like to be sure that I don't miss a consequence that would not have come to my mind.

In Slint as in Slackware that is runlevel 3 but I want that users (including the visually impaired) have the choice of starting the machine in text or graphical mode.

So a long time ago in galaxy far a way, there once was an issue were something ran high CPU if there were no console getty running at all. This was literally more than a decade ago and I can't recall other details. I am sure the problem has been fixed by now.

Fortunately we have 5 console getty running, on tty2 through tty6, so I guess we don't fall in this case?
