Angry Another problem with mouse (on 2.6.11) - nothing helps

I've read several topics about problems with mouse when updating to 2.6.x but nothing really helped.
My matter is rather strange. Few months ago I had well working Slackware with 2.6.8.1 kernel compiled by myself. But unfortunately my HDD burnt and I installed Slackware with default 2.4.29 kernel on new drive. Now, I wanted to change to 2.6.11. I compiled everything as usual but this time mouse (PS/2) doesn't work, both in X and gpm. Experimentally I changed mouse protocol in X.org to IMPS/2 (I've read somewhere that this helps) but still nothing - pointer doesn't move and buttons don't work. I tried even to do cat /dev/psaux and cat /dev/input/mice - no output.
I compiled kernel few more times with different settings and still nothing. I tried symlinking /dev/mouse to both /dev/psaux and /dev/input/mice but that doesn't help.

My kernel config options related to mouse support:
Code:
CONFIG_INPUT_MOUSEDEV=y
CONFIG_INPUT_MOUSEDEV_PSAUX=y
CONFIG_INPUT_MOUSEDEV_SCREEN_X=1024
CONFIG_INPUT_MOUSEDEV_SCREEN_Y=768
CONFIG_INPUT_MOUSE=y
CONFIG_MOUSE_PS2=y
Everything is in kernel so it can't be any problem with loading modules.
Now I'm really stuck and have no idea how to make it work...

Does mouseconfig work with the 2.6 kernel? I'm a little out-of-date, but do you get any error messages from X or from gpm (or mouseconfig, if it exists)?

mouseconfig works but doesn't help. gpm says nothing, in X logs I didn't find anything unusual, only normal startup with mouse drivers being loaded.
During boot kernel says only something like this about mouse:
kernel: mice: PS/2 mouse device common for all mice

take a look in /var/log/Xorg.0.log, for info on your mouse.
X won't start without a mouse, so it's recognised somehow.

I know it's recognised, however it doesn't work.

Fragments from my Xorg.0.log:
Code:
(**) |-->Input Device "Mouse1"
(II) LoadModule: "mouse"
(II) Loading /usr/X11R6/lib/modules/input/mouse_drv.o
(II) Module mouse: vendor="X.Org Foundation"
	compiled for 6.8.2, module version = 1.0.0
	Module class: X.Org XInput Driver
	ABI class: X.Org XInput driver, version 0.4
(**) Option "Protocol" "auto"
(**) Mouse1: Device: "/dev/input/mice"
(**) Mouse1: Protocol: "auto"
(**) Option "CorePointer"
(**) Mouse1: Core Pointer
(**) Option "Device" "/dev/input/mice"
(==) Mouse1: Emulate3Buttons, Emulate3Timeout: 50
(**) Option "ZAxisMapping" "4 5"
(**) Mouse1: ZAxisMapping: buttons 4 and 5
(**) Mouse1: Buttons: 5
(II) XINPUT: Adding extended input device "Mouse1" (type: MOUSE)
(--) Mouse1: PnP-detected protocol: "ExplorerPS/2"
(II) Mouse1: ps2EnableDataReporting: succeeded
I've tried also protocol "IMPS/2" and device "/dev/psaux".

Tell me if I'm buggin you

Have you tried passing the boot option psmouse.proto=bare, or psmouse.proto="PS/2" ? You should apparently be able to type that in at the boot prompt (after the image name), or add it to your bootloader under the appropriate image section.

Please, try it with caution - I haven't attempted it yet.

Did not help.

--- edit ---
Finally, I've got it work! I don't know exactly what was the problem resulting from, but I've made a new clean built from 2.6.11.2 sources and everything is ok
