It looks like this is going to end up in another boring Linux vs BSD thread. While the two can and should be compared, the hardware an OS in installed is crucial. The intended use is also crucial. The important point is that both are free in some sense and both have a lot to learn from each other.
Comparing Linux to BSD only makes sense if we take one particular hardware for a particular application. Or else you can compare their licensing regime. But making generic negative comments on any of them is not conductive to a dependable conclusion.
An operating system is a tool. Use the best tool to fit your needs. If your needs are to run on brand new hardware that uses mostly proprietary drivers, and you want to run flash and 3d games, BSD may not be for you. Linux may not be either.
