Admin tasks with KDE4

I can't seem to do any admin tasks with KDE4.

For example, in the systems settings I click "login manager" expecting to be prompted for the root password, but instead the login manger window opens with all the settings grayed out.

What gives?

edit: I've got the latest 4.2 installed from current testing.

Yes this is one of the biggest omissions in KDE 4.2. People have urged the KDE developers to add an "Administrator mode" (like there is in KDE3) before releasing KDE 4.2 but the requests were not honoured. You'll have to switch to root for your KDE Admin tasks for now.

That's weird... that functionality is availability in Ubuntu.

Have the Ubuntu devs implemented this independently?

They are likely using some variant of "kdesu".

Code:
kdesu /usr/bin/systemsettings
Can be used as a work-around until the administrator mode features are included.
