2 Monitor one ATI R 9000 with xorg

Hi there!

The title says it all, but not very clearly, eh?

So, I tried to make my laptop with an ATI radeon mobility 9000 work with two monitors; one the laptopmonitor and another 17" TFT.

When I connect the second mon. to the laptop I can switch between them and display same on both monitors. ... by HW

Now, I have been looking around for a while and found some more or less good threads and articles about that topic. But... always for the XFree86 and not for xorg (Slack 10).

Now before I try and maybe destroy something, I would like to know if I can make everything as if would use XFree86 (just use xorg.conf instead of xf86config) ... or if this is something totally different.

Further I would like to know if someone got xierana (???) working with xorg, not XFree86 ...

Do I have to install the ATI drivers or would it just be better or is it not of interest?

Please correct me if I am wrong about what to do:

- Install xierana (?)..
- edit xorg.conf to tell it all about my second monitor and
- that it should be left(right,...) to the first...
- restart X

Right? Not? Why? :-)

Ok, I know it's a lot , and that to the beginning of the weekend... bad me, bad me :-)

Any help is welcome!

Greetings, Sascha

I found these links, may/may not be what you're looking for:
http://tuxmobil.org/fujitsu.html
points to http://0pointer.de/lennart/projects/atitvout/

There shouldn't be a problem using your xorg.conf in place of XF86Config (if that's what you're asking). Just rename it.

xierana (???)
that's xinerama , haven't tried it on xorg

Hi fphillips!

I am not sure what could help me with your links. Have been looking through the stuff a bit, but I couldn't find anything about configuring the second monitor connector ... just a lot about TV out ... what I do not want to use.

Please, don't missunderstand me, don't wanna flame you with this, I really just don't find anything... is there something I looked over?

And, your right ... I ment "xinerama" :-)

Nice weekend!

Greetings, Sascha
