Nylex, "make oldconfig" lets you use your old config, but you still have the option to add new options should you wish to."

"Make oldconfig" is not recommended specific to kernel 2.6.x.x
"Don't use oldconfig unless you've got a valid .config file."

Which one? The 10.2 Kernel 2.4.29? In essence, if I find a kernel pkg at linuxpackages dot net for a 2.6.x kernel, I can use that and be on my merry way, right?

Nice job richcoosa19, i'm wondering... do you guys create and install an initrd? i've only compiled 5 kernels (on Slack) and sometimes i do the
Code:
mkinitrd -c -k 2.6.13 -m jbd:ext3 -f ext3 -r /dev/hdb3 (of course, with correct settings)
and some times i don't and don't add them to lilo, most of the time both work, i'm kinda confused here, i come from the world of:
Code:
fakeroot make-kpkg --append-to-version=.160805 --initrd --revision=custom.01 kern
el_image
look for the *deb and run dpkg -i blah
That's the downside of the debian, suse, fedora, etc "WAY" of learning, but i'm truly enjoying and learning in the "right way" of doing things. here
