2.6.* kernel, change in way devices work?

Hello,
I have just started using linux-Slackware in fact-again for the first time since experimenting with Redhat 6. Ive been doing a bit of searching on Google and honestly I dont know how to wade through so much filler to boil down to what Im looking for. Haha!
Seems like alot has been going on, which I think is great. And the usablitly has changed quite a bit from what I have tried so far. I tried Mandrake for about a week and was recommended Slackware by a family member who I guess is going to college for computer programming and here I am now. Thats my story so far in a nutshell.
I am running the stock bare.i kernel and have updated with all of the patches released so far for stable.
I'm kind of guessing here, but it looks to me like a 2.6 kernel would help my systems performance a bit? I have a good walkthrough that I have been reviewing and I am worrying about only one thing.
I have a digital camera that I have setup to mount as a scsi drive through my usb port. A simple /dev/sda(1) to mount through /mnt/cam.
Is anything different in 2.6 with devices, or will I be able to set it up that way again?
I have a nforce2 board, do the nforce2 drivers from nvidia play into that at all?

Thanks for any help or a turn to the right direction..

what was your family member's name?! it could be me!! i am in college for computer programming and have recommend slack to many a family members!!! HAHAHA. oh, to answer your question, i believe 2.6.* views the devices the same if you are using the typical bare.i kernel for install. you may have to go through and add soem additional modules for the SCSI emulation and/or what not (only if needed) but you should be good to go. If it dosnt work, back up your vmlinuz (rename vmlinuz.old) and edit your lilo.conf to load your 2.4.* version (vmlinuz.old) and your 2.6.* version (vmlinuz)

should be set
