14.0: can't switch back to console after starting windowmanager.

using ctrl+alt+f[1-6] neither works in fluxbox nor in xfce. interestingly, it works while i'm still in kdm or slim (1.3.4). once i start fluxbox or xfce, switching back to the text console is no longer possible. starting an empty x11 session using
Code:
X :2.0 vt8
from a terminal allows me to get back to :0.0.

Xorg.0.log shows nothing:
Code:
[23:43|san|~] grep \(WW\) /var/log/Xorg.0.log
(WW) warning, (EE) error, (NI) not implemented, (??) unknown.
[ 71.545] (WW) The directory "/usr/share/fonts/local" does not exist.
[ 71.545] (WW) The directory "/usr/share/fonts/OTF" does not exist.
[ 71.545] (WW) The directory "/usr/share/fonts/CID" does not exist.
[ 71.792] (WW) Warning, couldn't open module fbdev
[ 71.816] (WW) Falling back to old probe method for vesa

[23:45|san|~] grep \(EE\) /var/log/Xorg.0.log
(WW) warning, (EE) error, (NI) not implemented, (??) unknown.
[ 71.792] (EE) Failed to load module "fbdev" (module does not exist, 0)
i have encountered this with the generic 3.2.29 kernel as well as with a custom 3.4.12 kernel, catalyst-legacy and open source radeon driver. my graphics card is a radeon hd3200.

i did a fresh install of 14.0, keeping my $HOME (but deleted .config/xfce4) and reused some files from my 13.37-/etc.

since things work as they should unless a windowmanager/de is started, i believe that this issue is related to dbus or consolekit. removing ~/.xinitrc does not help. any idea?

I tried in run level 3 under fluxbox, then in run level 4 through kdm under fluxbox, xfce and KDE, no problem here.

I have a nVidia GPU, but can hardly imagine why the behavior you describe would be related to your GPU or the kernel module it uses.

ok, looks as if i was using the infinality patches on my 13.37 setup, so i still had settings in my .Xresources that were incompatible with a stock freetype.
mea culpa!
