Installing drivers for network cards

Sorry if its a problem, but seeing as I am a complete n00b, could someone please explain how to install a driver. I have a Netgear FA311, and I am running Slackware 9.0. I have saved the "c" file for my PCI card that was at http://www.scyld.com/network/ethercard.html onto a floppy as well. Where do I start?

well it always depend of the manufacturer of the drivers, there is no "standard" about drivers under linux.... don't you have a readme/install guide?

well, I just discovered that I already have a driver installed, but still no internet connection - time for another thread.
