I have Radeon9500 card and XFree86 4.3.0 , Slack 8.1 and I instaled drivers for radeons for 4.3.0. It instaled OK, everything works except that I cannot use OpenGL (or is it just DRM, because I cannot use xawtv as user) if I am not root, why?
This is what comes out when I type glxinfo and xawtv
Code:
name of display: :0.0
libGL error: failed to open DRM: Operation not permitted
libGL error: reverting to (slow) indirect rendering
display: :0 screen: 0
direct rendering: No
...
...
ibGL error: failed to open DRM: Operation not permitted
libGL error: reverting to (slow) indirect rendering
...
How to set permissions so that other users can use opengl (DRM)?
Setting section "DRI" in XF86Config-4 didn't help me.
I don't know if this is the best solution, but I solved the problem (on a Mandrake 9.1 with KYRO II video card) by manually setting permissions for DRI device:
chmod a+rwx /dev/dri (as root)
Now it seems to work.
Let me know if this works for you too, or if there are better solutions.
Bye.
