!fonts in red hat 8.0!

Hi all!
I have a problem installing fonts(truetype) in red hat 8.0. I follow all the steps. Place them in a directory, chkfontpath --add blah blah.
But I cannot see them in control center...... please help
(openoffice sees them though!)

You may need to add a font path to /etc/X11/XF86Config*

redhat 8 is quite diffrent form the previous redhats as will as all linux
to install new true type fonts in ur redhat box do the following
1-mkdir in this path /usr/share/fonts
for example new
mkdir /usr/share/fonts/new
then copy the true type fonts you want to install to that dir
2-cd /usr/share/fonts/new
mkfontdir
ttmkfontdir -o fonts.dir
chkfontpath -add /usr/share/fonts/new
/ets/init.d/xfs restart
and that is all

It's really insane!
You see that's exactly what I did in first place, but still have no view of my fonts in kde's or gnome's control center. And I can't choose them for the menus toolbars windows and so on ..!
IN OTHER words: The font library isn't being updated!!!
Programs like kwrite, kword have the same problem.
The fontpaths are added correctly in the xfs's configuration file though, and the server works just fine for openoffice, messenger, where the fonts are viewable!
So the question is: how can I just simply add them in the control center's font toolbar? Xfs doesn't seem to do it with a simple chkfontpath.
Another thing.. I believe you meant /ttmkfdir -o fonts.scale earlier. Thanks for the interest amigos!
Another thing: I borrowed the fonts from my windows partition.
May this cause a conflict...?

ok ........this will work
collect the fonts you want to install in ur box
in folder calld for ex c
cd c .......where ur new fonts
mkfondir
ttmkfontdir -o fonts.dir
now copy all the content of the folder and move them to
/usr/share/fonts/ja/true type
befor u make past clear all the content of this folder
make past of folder c content "dont copy the folder only the content fonts,fonts.di"
now check the control center fonts
dont told me this not add the new fonts in ur box

Unfortunately this didn't help either...... listen to what I did in detail:
I placed my truetype fonts in the directory /usr/share/fonts/myfonts
(There was no such ja/truetype directory..there)
I then typed: mkfontdir
ttmkfdir -o fonts.scale
(ttmkfontdir caused bash error)
then I add in xfs: chkfontpath --add /usr/share/fonts/myfonts
I also added the path in etc/X11/XF86config though it's not necessary, I know.
result->NOTHING
Do you happen to know where the fonts of control center are located? Are they truetype fonts too? thanks man

just make ~/.fonts dir and put your ttf fonts ~/.fonts
and then you can see them on control panel (and in all KDE apps)
