Question how to configure the dovecot IMAP server

I want use outlook IMAP to receive the e mail. I configured the dovecot.conf.and i can use telnet 192.168.250.200 143 command to connect to my linux server. but i can not use outlook to receive mail , the error like
Task 'Checking for new mail in subscribed folders on 192.168.250.200.' reported error (0x8004DF00) : 'Outlook is unable to download folder (null) from the IMAP e-mail server for account 192.168.250.200. Error: Your root folder path is invalid. If you continue to receive this message, contact your server administrator or Internet service provider (ISP).'
how to solve that problem?
Thanks!

have you configured the default_mail_env parameter in /etc/dovecot.conf?

yes, i set as default_mail_env = mbox:~/mail/:INBOX=/var/indexes/%d/%n
i set the imap_listen =192.168.250.200. because the server under company LAN. and i set the IMAP in outlook is 192.168.250.200. the e mail address is root@192.168.250.200.

In the unedited post #6 on this thread, you had written that you are unable to proceed beyond the root password.

Have you tried to fetch mails as another user? What error do yu get?

I'm getting the exact same error. Only one user is getting it and only on Outlook 2003. I have dovecot running maildir format. Any ideas?

Oh and they are able to see mail, the error is happening whenever they goto get their subscribed folders or some such.

One thing I've noticed in the /etc/dovecot.conf file is as follows...

# Valid UID range for users, defaults to 500 and above. This is mostly
# to make sure that users can't log in as daemons or other system users.
# Note that denying root logins is hardcoded to dovecot binary and can't
# be done even if first_valid_uid is set to 0.

Hope it helps.
