Checking Speedtouch 330 ADSL modem is working before service is provided?
Hi, I'm using Mandrake 9.2 and have just signed up for ADSL at home. The modem's the silver version of the Thomson (Alcatel) Speedtouch 330 and I think I've got it installed ok, but our line isn't enabled for a few more days, so I was wondering if there's any way I can check it's fully working. Is there some set of logs or commands I could try to hunt down any errors while I still have my trial period?
I've messed with a combination of the Mandrake drivers and installing my own, as I believe I had to update the firmware microcode, and I cant see any errors when I run:
However, simply running pppd call adsl adds another ppp* interface, even before the modem_run command or the modem is plugged in, so I'm wondering if it's actually all working together or there's some silent vital error going on.
Yeah, moved to Networking as requested. You're out of the hardware problem realm now if the modules have all loaded... now we're just into pppoe voodoo, which I avoid like the plague. Good luck mate.
I think the modules have loaded ok, and that I've configured PPPoA correctly, but I'd love some way to test it. Fingers crossed it all works straight away on the 11th (line-enabled day).
Now trying with Mdk 10.0 Official, modem_run -v 2 -f /usr/share/speedtouch/mgmt.o results in this appearing in /var/log/messages:

I'm quite sure I've got the latest microcode there though, and tried the -s option too.
