mdk10 + speedtouch - best way to install?

Hello all,

I am planning to upgrade to mdk10 official when it comes out in iso form,
but have recently read plenty of stuff saying how the speedtouch is not
compatible with the 2.6 kernel - is there a consolidated method out there
to get it to work? I've read several posts and they are seem to be saying
different things - which has left me a touch confused (an easy thing I
assure you :- I understand that in linux there are always several ways to
do the same thing - but has a consensus been reached on installing a 330
with mdk10?

I am sure that there are plenty on newbies who might be caught out on this

Any comments appreciated.

Ross

have read that you can install version 10 with the 2.4 kernel - would that sort out the possible problems?

Ross.

I'm using Mandrake 10 Community (Powerpack). Before that I was using Mandrake 9.2 ('Standard edition'). Basically, to get my Speedtouch working in Mandrake 10, I just have to provide my login details for Btinternet (username & password, that's all). To connect I use Network & Internet -> Monitor Connections -> Connect in the Mandrake Control Centre. Usually it can take a couple of minutes (during which time I can get a 'connection failed' message - even though the connection is still in progress). I know my computer has connected to the internet when a 'ppp0' tab appears in the Connect gui (next to eth0 if you have an ethenet card installed on your computer).

In short, Mandrake 10 is the easiest Linux distribution I've used to get my Speedtouch working (I didn't even have to provide mgmt.o in /usr/share/speedtouch as it is already provided). My Speedtouch is one of the silver ones (revision 4?) and works from a fresh install of mandrake 10 Community and I'm using a 2.6 Kernel

well thats the best news i've heard. I've also got the bt silver one, and setting up it on 9.2 was easy - it's just that i've been reading some horror setups from the various sites, and was a little bit put off about upgrading.

cheers for the note

Ross
