flash flashing with nvidia Geforce FX go5200

I have the 173xx legacy drivers installed via pacman as the nv and nouveau drivers don't work well in 3d (but the 2D is much better). The main annoyence now is that when youtube videos or anything to do with flash is embedded in a page. It flickers when being watched, desktop effects or not. I understand that I am now using a later xorg-server than in sabayon 5.1 but performence seems to have downgraded on arch.
When I put the yotube movie into fullscreen it doesn't flash but I can't press any of the buttons on the movie to skip through the film or close fullscreen. It is also annoying how most videos lag (again desktop effects or not) but I suspect this is the annoying downgrade in 2D performence since the switch from sabayon to arch.

Please help.
Thanks in advance

Hmmmm. OK I checked out sabayon 5.1 live cd yesterday and the package manager says the only installed nvidia drivers are 183 something something BUT nvidia settings says it's useing 173xx. It is still on the old xorg though... I will try 96xx later and report back.

EDIT: I forgot to mention that videos on youtube don't flash black BUT I still have problems in fullscreen. It is only embededed videos that flash.

Tryed 96xx and have now realised the fullscreen problems are only with kde effects on (not a problem on sabayon 5.1) but the flashing persists with or without effects on this driver.

It's a shame as I would expect more from nvidia's own proprietary drivers. Do nvidia ever issue bug or feature updates to it's legacy drivers? Anyone? How long will it be till nuveau will be usable. At least in 2d (I have tried but it can't run any 2d games or anything and compositing won't work etc. Other than that 2D is far superior with nouveau)

seeing as a FX go5200 is a laptop chip it is not all that surprising that full screen is giving you trouble

OK I have sorted (pretty much) the lag by turning off hardware accelaraton (right click on flash app/video and choose settings) but fullscreen buttons are still a no go with effects.
