checkpassword not work

Hi all,

I'm trying to use checkpassword in order to auth local users (from /etc/passwd).

When I done some test I get this error:

toxic:/var/qmail/bin# ./qmail-popup
-ERR usage: popup hostname subprogram
toxic:/var/qmail/bin# ./qmail-popup localhost /bin/checkpassword
+OK <18113.1240134599@localhost>
user username
+OK
pass password
-ERR authorization failed

Why? For now I don't want to use ucpsi or daemontools. How can I launch qmail-popup via inetd?

I tried this strings but I got the same error..

qmail-popup stream tcp nowait root /var/qmail/bin/qmail-popup localhost /bin/checkpassword /var/qmail/bin/qmail-pop3d Maildir
