I installed the synaptics driver from slacky.eu and made the following changes to xorg.conf

Added that entry, started X and still nothing. I'm also a bit confused on that last entry. Why would it be horizontaledge and not vertical, since the sidscroll on my touchpad is layed out vertically and not horizontal..

That looks okay, let's have look at your complete xorg.conf. Have you tried using it in more than one program, or is it only a certain program? There are some other trouble shooting tips here.

I tried using the sidscroll in a terminal under x, firefox, and filemanager, still doesn't work. My xorg.conf seems kinda messy, because I am using nvidia drivers downloaded from nvidia's site.
