Angry kernel headers version 2.6.24.3-12.fc8PAE for VM Ware Server

Hello ..

I am a new Bee ...

Main Goal to install VM Ware Sever on FC 8 32 bit Kernel-PAE

Installed Fedora 8 32 Bit Kernel-PAE version 2.6.24.3-12.fc8PAE on my DL580 G2 Server with 8 GB Ram .

I followed many other threads for Kernel-devel and install kerenel Header version 2.6.24.3-12.fc8 without the PAE.

by using

yum install kernel-devel

but the Kerenel-header version 2.6.24.3-12.fc8 is nor recognized by VM ware server and I am getting the error mentioned below :-

The directory of kernel headers (version 2.6.24.3-12.fc8) does not match your running kernel (version 2.6.24.3-12.fc8PAE). Even if the module were to compile successfully, it would not load into the running kernel.[/B]

Please help me to find the suitable kernel header for my kernel version version 2.6.24.3-12.fc8PAE

regards...

I've some memories on this kind op problem.
Two steps to solve the problem :
1. get the kernel-sources for your running kernel
2. make a new kernel : linux.h is then generated for your running kernel
It is NOT necessary to install the new compiled kernel
On the internet are a lot of places where these steps are explained in detail

Hi you may need petris any-to-any patch for vmwareand new kernels(do a google search for it),
or
you have the wrong sources. Do not think that yum is always smart enough to download the correct version for you(happened to me many times). By looking above, indeed it does look like the wrong headers are installed.

Thanks I will try the petris any-to-any patch today but the problem is that the Kernel Headers are wrong .I am able to install VM Ware and every thing without any problem without the PAE kernel. But lose my 8 GB RAM.

If you can guide where I can get the Kernel-header RPM for version 2.6.24.3-12.fc8PAE.It will be great.

Hello All,

Last Night I was able to solve this problem.I had remove my version 2.6.24.3-12.fc8PAE as I was not able to download or install the Kernel-PAE-Devel for this Kernel.

I removed this kernel 2.6.24.3-12.fc8PAE,Reinstalled kernel Version 2.6.24.3.33.fc8PAE.

Please note with this Kernel Version you need the vmware-any-any-update116.tar.gz patch to install VM Ware server.

regards...
