yum proxy problem

Hello. When I try to start yum the following error appears:
Code:
Could not retrieve mirrorlist http://mirrors.fedoraproject.org/mirrorlist?repo=core-6&arch=i386 error was
[Errno 4] IOError: <urlopen error (-2, 'Name or service not known')>
Error: Cannot open/read repomd.xml file for repository: core
Yum worked good without proxy server.
Firefox works (I specified proxy url, login and password), wget works too. But yum does not work. I tried to export http_proxy and I tried to specify proxy setting in yum.conf. But it did not help... What is wrong?

I wonder if it's your repos.d files, I don't know why, but for some people these files are either not right or were set up with a mirror that is not always accessible. How long have you had Fedora?. Have you been to the repos before without these errors?. Anyway, I posted my repos.d files in another thread for somebody whom I think just copied them and put them in their /etc/yum.repos.d and was all good. My second post has the actuall files, compare them and see if there is a difference.

Simple fix ditch fedora and go with Ubuntu or mepis because both of these distributions have apt whicc in my view is a far easier package management system than yum.

Thank you for answer... But I don't think that this is repos.d issue. Everything worked perfectly without proxy. I could install and update software. But nothing works now. I have no idea what is wrong...

About Ubuntu... I'll think about this

It seems everything is working now. Perhaps I did something wrong before... I just reentered proxy url (proxy=http://usernameassword@123.123.12.123) in /etc/yum.conf
