X failed to start after nvidia-glx installation - Dapper

Hello,

I just finished putting together a computer. I installed a brand new GeForce 7300GS video card. Then I did a fresh Ubuntu 6.06LTS installation. I followed along the nvidia-glx instructions at ubuntuguide.org for dapper to get the nvidia drivers going. Well, X failed to start. I'm no sloush in Linux so I was able to get X back up by using the xorg.conf backup.

So, I uploaded the xorg.conf created by nvidia-glx and the Xorg.0.log to my personal web space. I'm hoping someone could spot something that I've missed so I could get going with the nvidia drivers.

xorg.conf.nvidia
xorg.0.log

Thank you kindly for your help.

Found the solution by following this HowTo:
nVidia -BinaryDriverHowto

Searching Google-Linux for,

Failed to load the NVIDIA kernel module

gave me the clue.

I had the wrong linux modules installed for my 686 kernel.

Goal achieved!!!

I've reached my main goal. Well, getting nvidia working was a minor goal. The biggest was getting beryl working and it finally is up and running.

Beryl rocks!

I would like to add that I should have used Ubuntu from the get-go instead of Kubuntu. The GNOME environment is so much better now than it was a couple of years ago.
