Question Poorman's Install

I'm having a problem with the poorman's install of DSL 3.0.1. I copied the entire cd to C:\KNOPPIX (currently an MS-DOS and Win95 install resides on this drive).

I inserted the boot floppy and the cd. The floppy read for awhile, then came up with the dsl install screen. I ran with the default options, which returned:
Quote:
Can't find KNOPPIX filesystem, sorry.
Dropping you to a (very limited) shell.
lsmod returns:
Quote:
ide-cd 28512 0
ide-scsi 8816 0
The computer has a CD-ROM and HD connected through a SCSI controller card.

Any ideas?

You are only supposed to copy the \KNOPPIX\KNOPPIX so that you have c:\KNOPPIX\KNOPPIX

Ok, I had another folder named KNOPPIX, so that was wrong. But I moved it out, and I'm still getting the same error...

Ah, sata pata setup. There's the problem. The boot disk is probably only compatible with /dev/hd??? devices. Your hard drives are showing up as a /dev/sd??? device. You probably need to use a full live cd, not just a boot disk to startup.

I'm using the syslinux ISO and just tried booting directly from it (again)... is there something different I should be using?

Something just occurred to me... if you're looking at my sig, you should know the computer I'm discussing here is not the one mentioned in my sig. This is an old box with a PCI SCSI controller, not Osiris.

Haha I made a thread like this at the DSL forums, so I forget what I've said where... here we go...

Pentium Pro 200 MHz
96 MB RAM
2 GB SCSI Hard Drive
12x SCSI CD-ROM Drive
SCSI Controller is PCI-slot interface, includes special BIOS-ish firmware/software environment
Onboard Video Controller
