Hi guys,
Just had a mess out of my system and had to reinstall the OS and thus destroying my perfectly balanced desktop with all its glory, including the nvidia drivers.
Started experimenting with a few things and finally found a cause and a solution for the oh so known nvidia video drivers installations.
I started experimenting with different kernel versions, and i found out that the new 340_65 version of the nvidia drivers seem to work only with newer stable kernels, for example :
I have a Nvidia 210, 512 MB memory, and last time when i managed to easyly install the drivers was on my old system, using the 3.17.4 stable kernel, then i turned my eyes on 3.18.3 which was the next stable release of the kernel, and saw that the drivers where doing extremely well on the newer kernel also. Then i had to format my system and decided to try out the newest mainline kernel that i can find, at the time it was 3.19.rc4 ( now we re on the rc5 version and soon awaiting the stable release ) after i installed everything, i wanted to test the video drivers, but tough luck, it wouldn t install. I mean they get installed even if you chose the proprietary binaries or opt for the .deb packages on the Jessie repo`s. But after you finished installing them, BANG, the system won t want to show X again, no matter what you do .. at least for now.
So then it struck me, i also installed the 3.16 kernel which was the current stable kernel available at the time debian 7.7 stable was released.
So i booted the system in 3.16 and voila, drivers i recently tried on 3.19 which didn t work, seem to do fine on older stable kernels.
I also recall using 3.17.x kernels with the same good results.
So for anyone having this problem trying out nvidia drivers on 3.19 kernel might search and see my thread and try this semi-workaround until the kernel will support the drivers in the near future.
So long story short, sorry for the long post but thought it would be helpful.
With all this said, i need to go enjoy some good old warthunder
Thanks,
Bller
