Fedora 14 Live CD boots but error with install to hdd
Dear linux users,
I have a Fedora Live CD which I have used several times to install Fedora 14. In the past I have upgraded to Fedora 15,16,17 and later reverted back to Fedora 14 without difficulty using my Fedora 14 Live CD. (I prefer fc14 because my printer driver bundle install 100%)
Recently I found the Fedora 14 Live DVD which I installed to hdd. Now again I would like to revert to a Fedora 14 CD install (for the same reason as before). The Fedora 14 Live CD boots perfectly as always and is fully workable as a system, internet, installing new software and all. The problem is with the desktop application "Install to Hard Disk" which now displays an error message. Something about the installation attempt throwing an exception.
Can you help with this problem? Many thanks for reading.

We can certainly help: DON'T USE FEDORA 14. Simple...
Fedora 14 hit end-of-life/TOTALLY unsupported/unpatched THREE YEARS AGO. If you try to run/load it on modern hardware, chances are VERY good that it won't work, because such an old distro won't know about or work with new hardware. Chances are very good your printer bundle will work just fine with FC20 or another distro. While we can try to help you work through the problem, it is REALLY not a good idea to use an old, outdated OS. And before we can help, you need to tell us what hardware you're running it on, and what the exact error is...just saying "something about...." tells us very little.
also the "live media " is not the best option for installing
I would use the torrent downloade http://torrent.fedoraproject.org/tor...64-DVD.torrent
the torrent client will AUTO check the image and MAKE 100% sure it is all there
Thanks for responses.
I have since discovered install CD to be damaged. Iso image size and size or written area of CD did not match. (CD was written as a multi write and maybe I accidentally burnt sonething onto it or something) I re-downloaded the iso image (from fedora archive) using the checksum this time. All ok now.
Old fedora versions as you say are not supported as well as the newer versions but there are some resources (adequate) still maintained. Yum install is one thing that older versions do not seem to have but its better anyway to find the bundle(s) yourself and install them.
Thanks.
Old fedora versions as you say are not supported as well as the newer versions
NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!
it is NOT "not as well"
old versions of fedora ARE DEAD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
and are in a coffin buried 6 ft under
R.I.P.
fedora 18
fedora 17
fedora 16
-- and in January 2015 ) TWO months from NOW
R.I.P. Fedora 19
they are DEAD AND UNSUPPORTED !!!!!!
not " less supported"

NO THEY ARE NOT !!!!!!!!!!!
they are NOT!!!!! maintained at all
and they will NEVER BE
Just curious, does the current distro not install the printer driver bundle? I still have the "Official" CD install disks for Fedora 4 core - doesn't mean I'll ever install it again.
