I tried checkinstall to track installation of package, when I run it it, first it run ok, then asked a lot of questions, like to specify a doc-pac, package version, package string and plenty other details (I only specified package name), or enter to proceed, I press enter, after some process it failed. It put a lot of files in package directory, but not installed package.
Don't l know how to clean it or how to proceed with this, as manual just say to use 'sudo checkinstall' instead of 'sudo make install'.
What package were you trying to install?
Did configure and make run without errors?
binwalk package, I managed to install it properly. Checkinstall requires that all values in the package configuration options must be specified properly.
What is the exact error you get when using checkinstall? Without it, all we can do is to guess (which is not very helpful).
In any case, I think you need to specify the package name and version, at least (in case checkinstall doesn't automatically fill in the version field for you). In addition, other package managers (synaptic, aptitude, apt-get, dpkg) shouldn't be running when using checkinstall, otherwise it will fail to build he package.
edit: I misread your last post. If your problem is solved, you can mark this thread as solved in the thread tools button above.
