I haven't messed around with linux in a LONG time, and I'm trying to get my speakers to work. They aren't anything special. In fact, it may be more accurate to say that I'm trying to get my SOUND CARD to work. Just installed Slackware 10.2, and I have no idea what kind of sound card I have (found this computer case in a dumpster =P)

If possible, please point me in the right direction to getting slackware to auto-detect my sound card type and get it to work.

If that's not possible, please provide advice on how to tell what kind of sound card I have, and also how to enable it on slackware.

Open a console and, as root, run lspci. Read down the list and it should show your card. For example, mine looks like this:

Maybe my sound card is connected in some funky way that this command doesn't detect? i,e, maybe its built into the motherboard (maybe that doesnt make any sense but i said to bear with me!) But at least now I know my gfx card is ATI and my ethernet card is base 100 =)

EDIT: @XavierP, my nondescript subject violates the guildelines in one of your sig links... is there any way to edit the subject or am I stuck with this silly choice?
