Fatx filesystem writable by user

Is it possible to mount a fatx filesystem to allow any user to write to it besides root?

My first instinct is to reply "yes" and leave it at that. But I'd guess you'd like to know how.

You have two options:
You can either add the "user" option in /etc/fstab and let the user mount it themselves, or, to have it automounted at boot and writable by any user, add "umask=000" in that same place.

For example, my FAT32 partition is listed as:
Code:
/dev/hdc6 /mnt/fat vfat noatime,noexec,nosuid,nodev,umask=000 0 0

Thanks... I thought that was how you did it, but my system is actually an xbox running gentoox. The way it is set up, depending on how you install it, gentoox will only allow writing on 1 of the fatx partitions.

Thanks for the info

That is really odd. Is that documented somewhere?

The only place that it is documented is on the website. I'm not sure how they are controlling the permissions because the fstab is set up as follows:

Code:
/dev/hda51 /mnt/fatx/c fatx defaults,noauto,umask=022 0 0
/dev/hda50 /mnt/fatx/e fatx defaults,umask=0000 0 0
/dev/hda55 /mnt/fatx/f fatx defaults,umask=0000 0 0
So one would think that both the e and f partitions would be accessible
