fail to mount nfs fs...

All,
I am getting this error when trying to mount an nfs mount:
mount to NFS server '192.168.240.56' failed: server is down.

I have check, portmap, nfs, and mount services. They are all running according to rpcinfo.

System profile: Fedor3.

Any idea? Thanks.

have you got a firewall in between the client and server? If yes then disable it. If you want to allow NFS connections through the firewall then let me know.

found out why ....

Apparently when I upgraded my FC3 package from util-linux-2.12a-16 to util-linux-2.12a-21, this breaks some of the nfs option. For example when I tried to mount and nfs mount served by RH7.2 I got the error. But I recieved no error when mounting an nfs mount served by another FC3 server. I ended up hacking it by copying mount cmd from package util-linux-2.12a-16. At this point I am not sure if it is a security feature in util-linux-2.12a-21 or a bug.

I'm having the same problem. The suggested "nfsvers=2" does not fix it. I ran the automatic up2date last night (kernel 2.6.10-1.1770_FC3, NFS is system-config-nfs-1.2.8-1 and nfs-utils-1.0.6-52), now NFS to my RH 7.2 system just won't work. It worked fine yesterday, and my two RH 7.2 systems have no trouble with NFS to each other. There is are no firewalls, etc. and other services like Samba, FTP, telnet, etc. all work fine.

Flash News Update: As I was posting this message, I thought I'd check if new updates were available, and they were -- one was util-linux-2.12a-23. I downloaded it, and the problem is fixed. Didn't even have to reboot.

glad I am not the only exp. this problem...

I am glad I am not the only one experiencing this problem. Hehe, I wonder if I can send in a bug report to the FC3 team?

FC3 nfs issue is patched...

By the way the package util-linux has been patched. look for util-linux*-23.rpm. This will fixed the nfs problem from above.
