Installation of Realtek 8180 Drivers for Mandrake 10.0

Hi

I'm using Linux Mandrake 10.0
gcc's version 3.3.2
kernel release linux-2.6.3-4mdk

I downloaded the last drivers (v1.5) from the realtek website.
But, those drivers doesnt work out.. when I'm trying to compile some errors occurs. I think it's becasuse of the kernel's version.

Anyone could help me?

Regards

I have an exactly the same situation with RTL8180 NIC I got today.
I went Realtek's homepage, but they do not have any driver for kernel 2.6.

I'm searching for some information.
Does anyone have any?

2.6.x kernel for Realtek 8180

I asked the same thing for the 2.6 kernel on the big WPC11v.4 thread yesterday. Until Realtek releases drivers for 2.6.x, which they haven't, then your only option is ndiswrapper or linuxant. I would advice e-mailing the driver maintainer(I don't have his address. the big 8180 thread probably has it) and telling him we need a 2.6.x version. Good luck.

You're right.
I just find linuxant provides a DriverLoader for Realtek 8180 Wireless NIC.

I have a license for the HSF modem driver that my VAIO FX has.
And it works great on Mandrake 10.

I hope the Wlan driver loader will work as well, or Realtek releases new driver for 2.6 kernel.

Regards,

Yesterday, I was successfully able to get the ndiswrapper driver working with kernel 2.6.4. Make sure you get cvs if you do try it, since the latest packaged release might not have support for the 8180.

Which WindowsXP driver does any of you use for this NIC?
I mean "where did you download it from?"

I have been skrewed up since last time I posted here.
trying to make it work with ndiswrapper with WinXP driver from Realtek Website and the one downloaded from WindowsUpdate Catalog, I got no responce from command "modprobe ndiswrapper".

Also, as a referense, "dmesg | grep ndiswrapper" shows...
---
ndiswrapper version 0.6+CVS loaded
ndiswrapper adding rtl8180.sys
ndiswrapper: error log: C000138C, length: 0 (cdecfdcc)
ndiswrapper: Driver init returned error
---
and "dmesg | grep rtl8180" shows...
---
ndiswrapper adding rtl8180.sys
rtl8180.sys: probe of 0000:06:00.0 failed with error -22
---

Thus, I am just curious what driver does the successor uses.

Regards,

I mail to realtek asking support for the kernel 2.6.
That their reply:

->
Dear Sir,
Sorry for the inconvenience.
_
The driver is not ready yet. I hope it will be released in 5/M.
<-

Still have to understand what 5/M mean.

I have installed ndiswrapper and it load the driver.
I used iwconfig wlan0 mode ad-hoc
and iwconfig wlan0 essid luca

both card got the same cellid but they cannot ping eachother.

Installation of Realtek 8180 drivers in SuSE 9.1 Professional

Hi All,

Having just upgraded to SuSE 9.1 Professional, and the magical 2.6.4 kernel, I was a little dissapointed to find that my Realtek 8180 PCMCIA wireless network card still doesn't work.

Yes I have read all the previous posts, and I decided to go the ndiswrapper route, as the linux drivers supplied by Realtek wouldn't compile or load without problems.

Installing ndiswrapper, was simple enough, I got the latest CVS build, typed make install waited .... sucess it installed.

I ran the obligatory

ndiswrapper -i NET8180.INF to load the winXP driver, fine that seemed to work, ndiswrapper -l showed rtl8180 present. The card started to flash, but at very iregular intervals (note in XP it is constantly flicking between green, and red when functioning correctly).

When I grep'd the dmesg I saw a line with wlan0 in it, all looked good. Now I then did the following to configure the network card and network setup.

iwconfig wlan0 mode Auto
iwconfig wlan0 essid Any
iwconfig wlan0 channel 1

# At this point the light activity on my card became XP'esque but could not
# ping anything

iwconfig wlan0 key 0000AA0000AA0000000000AAAA
## Note I have a 13 paired hex wep key (128-bit) set up on my router

iwconfig wlan0 wep open

ifconfig wlan0 192.168.0.55
#my IP address ?

route add default gw 192.168.0.1 wlan0
#my routers IP?

>ping google.com

network not available

Any one have any ideas what I'm doing wrong, with either the ndiswrapper installation, the network setup, missing a trick in the Suse 9.1 Yast2 program that will do it for me, or know anyway that I and many others can get the Realtek card to function under a 2.6 Kernel?

Thanks in advance for your help,

Matt

mj, do what you did above
from root:
modprobe ndiswrapper -- to load module
dmesg -- to see if driver is loaded
configure interfaces -- iwconfig wlan0 (all data key, mode, etc)
ifconfig wlan0 up
ping, test, etc -- if everything works:
ndiswrapper -m -- to auto load @ boot
snakedriver

I have the same problem as mj.

I have an access point and two PC's one with rtl8180 card.
I have tried to configure it with ndiswrapper but it is not working.

Actually it does the following:

upon indicating
mode Any
essid Any

the lights on the PCMCIA card light up.
Well, the Link light does, and the Tx/Rx light blinks from time to time.

but it still doesn't find the accesspoint.

wlan0 IEEE 802.11b ESSID:"" Nickname:"dhcppc1"
Mode:Auto Frequency:2.437GHz Access Point: FF:FF:FF:FF:FF:FF
Bit Rate=11Mb/s Tx-Power:20 dBm Sensitivity=0/3
RTS thr=2432 B Fragment thr=2432 B
Encryption keyff
Power Managementff
Link Quality:100/100 Signal level:-95 dBm Noise level:-256 dBm
Rx invalid nwid:0 Rx invalid crypt:0 Rx invalid frag:0
Tx excessive retries:0 Invalid misc:0 Missed beacon:0

If i type in iwconfig wlan0 essid Any for a short time the values change:

wlan0 IEEE 802.11b ESSID:"" Nickname:"dhcppc1"
Mode:Ad-Hoc Frequency:2.437GHz Cell: 02:E0:6E:71:3A0
Bit Rate=11Mb/s Tx-Power:20 dBm Sensitivity=0/3
RTS thr=2432 B Fragment thr=2432 B
Encryption keyff
Power Managementff
Link Quality:100/100 Signal level:-95 dBm Noise level:-256 dBm
Rx invalid nwid:0 Rx invalid crypt:0 Rx invalid frag:0
Tx excessive retries:0 Invalid misc:0 Missed beacon:0

but then, come back to AccessPoint FF:FF:FF:FF:FF

iwlist peers gives:
wlan0 Interface doesn't have a list of Peers/Access-Points

if i do the same thing from another PC with a wlan card that works well under linux i get
ath0 Peers/Access-Points in range:
00:80:5A:22:4A:0F : Quality:16/94 Signal level:-79 dBm Noise level:-95 dBm (updated)
00:01:38:12:5A:95 : Quality:10/94 Signal level:-85 dBm Noise level:-95 dBm (updated)

What do I do wrong? what other config is available?

thanks in advance,
Vadim

Hi,

I managed to configure a Belkin F5D6001 that has the Realtek 8180 chip under Suse 9.2 Pro with ndiswrapper. You have to modify inf file included with the XP drivers. I can send the modified file to everyone who wants it.

But I still can't use the ad-hoc mode. I'm not sure if the problem is due to ndiswrapper or maybe I haven't configured the wlan ok.

Any ideas?
