Can i pugrade from SuSE 9.1 pro to 9.2 when it comes out?

I have suse 9.1 pro . I was wondering if i can upgrade it to suse 9.2 pro when it comes out on november without the need to pay it again. Will i be able to upgrade it online via eg Yast?

No, they just put the whole distro online for free download on the suse server to frustrate you, not so that you could download and update...

I just did this the other night from 9.0 to 9.1. In YaST, you can change the source of installation from DVD or CD to an FTP server (whichever mirror you use in YOU, but use the "current" directory). Then you can select the "system update" option for a complete update, or you can go to install or remove programs and choose specific packages (you can get new ones and/or update ones you currently have). You can also use this option to upgrade from a personal edition (which is free) to a professional edition.

What FTP site did you use as your source? When I change my source to current then select System Update, after checking my packages it shows up as updating to 9.1. Is this because the FTP site I'm using is not ready for 9.2 or do I need to check other information?

The "current" directory is still 9.1 for now. The upgrade I did was from 9.0 to 9.1. They have a 9.2 directory, but so far they are only some RPMs, not the full system. Here is the README file in the ftp.suse.com/pub/suse/i386/9.2/ directory (this is not a mirror):

*****

Fri Oct 22 16:36:50 MEST 2004 - draht

Dear visitor of ftp.suse.com or one of its mirrors,

this is the directory in which the SUSE LINUX 9.2 product packages
can be found.

As of now, end of October 2004, only the source RPM packages for the
product are being made available. The remaining binary packages for
the SUSE LINUX 9.2 ftp version are being worked on and will be made
available in this directory at a later time.

Thanks,
ftpadmin@suse.com.

You can use this 9.2 directory as the source to update/install specific programs, but they do not have the system upgrade for 9.2 set up yet. When that is ready, they will link the "current" directory to 9.2.

There is a directory 'supplementary/KDE/update_for_9.1/' but YOU is not getting it. How to update to KDE3.3 then?
