Wanted: High quality games that are worth buying !

Please list high quality games that are worth buying, that you have played. Any platform is ok, preferred would be Linux, but consoles are ok too.

EDIT: as the newer commercial games go, I think the Mass Effect series series the best among them.

- Bioshock 1 and 2 (my favourite games. the story, atmosphere and voice acting are superb)
- Team fortress 2 (if you are into fun/strategic online shooters),
- Amnesia: The Dark Descent (scary as hell )
- Civilization 5 (if you like turn-based strategy).

EDIT: unfortunately only Amnesia has a Linux version, the rest run on Windows (Bioshock also runs on consoles I think).

Battlestations Pacific... this is what i call A GAME

Do not try to play in siege mode ( defend of gain a stronghold ) against me w/ Japanese Campaign...

Thief series; although maybe the graphics quality is not the best (the first of the trilogy is from 1998, but you could get the last one, Thief: Deadly Shadows, which is better graphically). Probably the best game I've ever played.
Also, Assassin's Creed (good gameplay, and graphically astounding).

+1 for Civilization 5, and and it works fine with wine.
Dragon Age: Origins is also very good, and I also like some of the older games, like Jagged Alliance 2 or Neverwinter Nights.
Hmm, lets think about some more. I find Assassin's Creed II funny, Mafia 2.

System Shock 2; Serious Sam (First and Second encounter).

Assassins Creed 1 2 and 3.... But mainly for the story. Gameplay is particularly repetitive in 1. And they all sort of follow the same model. This game is not for everybody. They all follow the same story and they all can stand on their own but 2 and 3 follow closer together in the time line.

Ratchet and Clank - any of them. Their all the same game aside from story which is often amusing. Plus it's fun to level up the weapons. WAY TOO EASY. Not challenging at all. But I like it.

Zelda Twilight Princess - Game Cube Version. Best of the 3D Zelda, great fun, but still suffers from the 'empty world' feeling where some areas are so large it make it feel wrong. It's mainly about the dungeons and puzzles.

Mirrors Edge - free running on buildings with decent story. Great for $20 terrible for $60.

NFS Carbon, terrible story, great gameplay and fun to decorate cars.


Never buy anything with "Ninja" in it. They are all the same game play and they always suck terribly.


I honestly don't buy many games for money reasons. But those are some of my selections for newer games.

Super Metroid. Buy it for Wii Virtual Console and play it with a Classic Controller Pro. Buy a Classic Controller - USB adapter and you have best Linux gamepad.

Standard Anglo-American deck of 52 (+2 Jokers) playing cards. Tons of fun, universal appeal, endless opportunities and not reliant on electricity.

Any thinking games; Crainium, Boggle, Picross, Sudoku,etc.
