I have a new 120GB disk drive where I want to install Linux. There is an existing drive for the Windows System. Primary and a couple more logical drives.
Windows recognizes the drive and formatted it once. I removed the partition because it will only install NTFS.
Windows is disk 0, new drive (configured as slave) is disk1.
When I tried to install with graphical interface and no partitions on the new drive it failed.
I partitioned but did not format the drive...'Simple' partition.
I booted RH9 from the CD-ROM.
Every time I get to the partition section, it fails, saying I didn't create a /root.
Tried doing it using 'Automatic.'
Failed. Same error.
The drive shows up at hdb - but the buttons become inoperative when I reach the point where I'm supposed to CREATE the boot partition etc.
Now, I have dual monitors. Linux recognizes the MatroxG550 fine. But no provision for a 2048X1024 display. Instead, I get two duplicate screens!
Oh well...maybe I've got to go back to Matrox and get some drivers here.
I've got the internet accessed and the network is recognized. I love a new OS. This will be a learning curve and a rediscovery. I even saw "Sendmail" pop up there...shades of OS/2!
Thanks for a prompt response...thanks even more for the CORRECT answer!

thats a very High setting for your monitor, do you have 2 screens or is it split in half..if split in half adjust " Monitir sett physicaly on it. chose auto adjust if its there"
It's 2 monitors, using the 'dual-head' feature of the G550. Normally, you just give it 2048X768 and they form one continuous piece of desktop real estate.
Now, I'm also AMAZED that Linux doesn't have an MP3 player!!!
I have to read up and learn how to do these RPM programs!
