Can not open most applications and can not use most commands in Terminal

This message appears...

"Getting the list of files failed: internal-error, The backend exited unexpectedly. This is a serious error as the spawned backend did not complete the pending transaction."

This happened the first time I install Sabayon in a VirtualBox, and the second, and now the third. There has to be a way to fix this error. How do I do it? It normally happens whenever I try to open Sulfur and it fails to open and then I try to open another application. How do I fix this error? This is one of things that makes me think twice about using Sabayon. *Not saying I don't want to use it, it looks absolutely beautiful, and the XBMC Media Center is beautiful, never heard of it until now, and it's the most beautiful by default* Please help
