My suggestion would be to get a more up to date kernel than what came with the RH9 installation disks. Getting the patch would solve it, but you would have to go through the rigors of compiling a kernel. Patches can be found at kernel.org, but the source provided covers the entire kernel, not just what you are looking for.
There were a number of kernel updates for RH9. You can find the RPMs at
ftp://archive.download.redhat.com/pu...dates/9/en/os/. Select the RPM for your architecture with a higher version than 2.4.20-8 and it should work. I'd go as high as possible just to be certain.
