I'm running a CentOS 6 box and have a Logitech keyboard and mouse. I had previously used this hardware on a Windows machine and I could for example assign the mouse back button to be mapped to the browser back operation, or the volume up/down buttons on the keyboard to the volume up/down of Windows box.

I was able to do this in Windows using Logitech's Setpoint software. I've done some searches and it appears Logitech does not have a port of this application for Linux. In my searches though I saw references to various Linux based mouse/keyboard mapping tools. I tried a couple but didn't have much luck in getting them to work.

Is there anything out there that works with Logitech products for this kind of thing?

Well, the normal mouse buttons all work--left-click, right-click, mouse-wheel, etc. But most Logitech mice have extra buttons, such as page-left and page-right, and currently these do nothing under CentOS. The provided mouse control panel in Gnome is pretty generic and does not provide any means to assign these extra buttons. It does not know that I am using a Logitech M705 mouse. I did a search for a CentOS version of btnx and couldn't find anything.

I have the same issue with my keyboard. It's a Logitech K750. The keyboard control panel in Gnome is a little better, and even lists some keyboard models, but mine is not included, and even if it was there, there doesn't seem to be anyway to assign specific actions to keys. For example, under Windows I could enter fn-F9 to mute sound. This worked by default for Windows, although the setpoint software let you reassign things if you wanted.

So, is there a way to do the kind of thing that Setpoint does for Windows (and MacOS) under CentOS?
