RPM Fedora Work With RedHat

Hello

Will RPMs for Fedora 9 work with Redhat Enterprise edition 5?

Thanks In Advance.

I am intrested in xl2tpd though there are no RPMs for it and certainly no documentation.

Maybe. There might be dependency problems in that the rpm may depend on different versions of packages than those you have installed on Red Hat 5. The way to find out is to try to install the rpm and see whether or not the installation fails on dependency checks.

You can do a test install (rpm -i --test xl2tpd.rpm) and see if it will work. Since the package is for Fedora 9, you may need to upgrade a good number of dependencies.

You would have a better chance if you used a rpm from a version of Fedora closer to RHEL5. RHEL5 was based on FC6.

...or get the fedora source package and use rpmbuild to build a rhel5 binary.

As lazlow pointed out, you may need to use a source package from an earlier version of fedora.

Typically, rebuilding fedora 6 & 7 packages for rhel5 is straightforward and rebuilding fedora 8 packages is hit-and-miss. Rebuilding fedora 9 packages should be even worse.
