I just installed rhel4 a few days ago and was doing some editing to the logical volumes ( adding one and resizing others) and everything seemed to go well. I was using system-config-lvm to do some fine tweaking.

On reboot everything goes fine, there are no error but at the exact moment the boot ends and it should go to the login screen it hangs. The funny thing is that i can still shell into the box remotely and everything is fine but at the terminal it seems like a crash. when i reboot and do a diskcheck the machine with reboot just fine (well 4 out of 5 times) and i can log in and use it as expected.

boot.log is clean and X is configured just fine. Anyone ever hear of this or know what could be the problem?

one thing i noticed is that when it does the check disk the logical volume i created doesnt get checked... is there a reason for this?

It only checks what is being mounted. Did you add the new lv to fstab?

Also, did you reduce the size of any logical volumes without first reducing the size of the filesystems they contain?
