RHEL4 problem with memory

hi,

I installed RHEL 4 Update 2 to my pc (intel dual core 3GHz with 4GB ram and 250 GB SATA HD) and I'm facing the following problem. The boot sequence takes more than 40 minutes and generally is running very slow. I install ELhugmem in order to support 4GB mem but nothing changed. Only when I insert the parameter mem=2048 to the kernel the system is running normally. Any ideas of how to support 4GB of memory without the performance problems?
The kernel I'm using is 2.6.9-22 ELHugemem

If you have 4GB or ram you dont need the Hugemem kernel.

Hugemem is for greater than 4gb ram IIRC.
