RHEL 5.3 Yum Repository, xen & phpMyAdmin

Hi all

I am running RHEL 5.3 with outdated subscription. I need to update and install xen and phpmyadmin on this however i am unable to do any installations as the yum packages are not updated.

I have been searching and trying out many solutions found via google however am unable to update xen nor phpmyadmin still.

Can anyone shed some light?

Thank you!

Hi there,

Welcome to LQ!!!

One way:

Renew your subscription ;-)

Other way:

Get the source rpms from: ftp://ftp.redhat.com/redhat/linux/en...r/en/os/SRPMS/

Compile them and install.

You can navigate around in the above mentioned link to see if you find more relevant packages in some other folder.

Renew the required red hat subscription .
Also think about upgrading to the current 5 series RHEL 5.6 .
or
BUY a longterm support contract for 5.3
Red hat dose back port the security fixes to older versions but you MUST have a support contract for that.

Last but not least, if you don't / can't renew, replace with CENTOS (free version of RHEL).

you could always build from source

You do at least HAVE a long term support contract , for the backported security fixes , right ?

this copy of 5.3 is a registered copy ?

red hat is not free you MUST have a longterm ( 5 to 7 year for the older 5.3) support contract

for xen ? rhel6.1 is much better but it will be in rhn
Code:
yum search xen
---- and ----
yum search phpmyadmin
should show results

but for phpomyadmin i would grab it from there web site and manually install

yes we bought it together with dell poweredge server.

what happens is xen is outdated at 3.0.3 and phpmyadmin requires mcrypt support.

build a new xen kernel from source and passably break your support contract
install a newer mysql
install a newer php
install a newer phpmyadmin
and possibly a newer Apache

manually from source
