RHE 4 AS with 4 CPUs - shows 8 loaded in dmesg

I have a quick question regarding an installation of Redhat 4 AS I just installed on a Dell with 4 CPUs. I wanted to check to see that all 4 CPUs are running correctly and that the system is OK. I checked the /var/log/dmesg output and found that is actually reads:

"Total of 8 processors activated (23867.67).

I am curious as to why it would read this when I only have 4 Xeon chips in the computer.
