Remote Graphical Connection?

i looked around for something like this and didnt find anything obvious. im installing rh9 on a machine right now as i type. it will be my 2nd rh machine that i hope to use as a server. i wont have it setup in a real accesable area though and would need to be able to connect to it remotely, but not just through telnet or through terminal or something. i would like to be able to get access to the full graphical desktop if i could, just as if i were sitting at the machine with a monitor and keyboard infront of me. i will have it sitting next to a windows box, which i easily use windows Remote Desktop Connection program which works perfectly for what I need. Is there a linux/redhat equivalent to that program?

try VNC. you can run a VNC server on your redhat box and use a VNC client on your main rig. with VNC it will be just like you are sitting in front of the computer. http://www.realvnc.com/

You may also want to investigate the Linux Terminal Server Project, which can do much the same thing. The client computer (the one you sit in front of) can be old and slow, with 16MB RAM and no hard drive, and it'll still work great.

I have been trying to look into this myself. Apparently KDE has a Desktop Sharing option as well. I think you would be restricted to having KDE on the local machine, but it could also help with what you need. Careful using the VPN, because it is possible to setup an unsecured connection. I would recommend tunneling it through ssh, although I haven't had the time to try to do this myself.

tunneling through ssh doesnt give me access to the desktop though does it? ssh is just like a secure telnet right? i did actually get the vnc to work pretty well. there was one problem i had when i tried to make the vnc maximize the whole screen though. when i connected to my server, the vnc did take up the whole screen, looking just like my laptop was the server, but for some reason the keyboard wouldnt work, and i couldnt figure out how to return back to my laptop.

I'm pretty sure they explain how to do this securely on their website. I read about it one time, but just haven't gotten around to doing it. I don't see why you can't do something like that, especially when you use it to access your X server. Does anybody have any input here?
