RedHat-AS3.3 problem?

System information
Manufacturer: Compaq
Product Name: ProLiant ML350 G3

When exec(echo "scsi scan-new-devices" > /proc/scsi/scsi) ,kernel fatel and System hangs.

Under RedHat-AS-3.0 is OK! Why?

Possibly a bug I would assume. What's the reason for the echo to /proc/scsi/scsi ?
