I could only find one place to download v9 (shrike), so I did (all 3 ISOs), but when I burned them to CD and tried to install, even though the #1 CD is in place and running, when it asks where I want to install from, I select Local CDROM, and it gives me an error "The Red Hat Linux CD was not found in any of your CDROM drives". it will not recognize either of my CD-Roms. I am running an AMD(2)-3D with a 40x CD and a 32x12x40 CDRW.
I've tried to copy the ISO files to the HD to make a HD install, but still get the same "CDR01:Not ready reading Drive E", even though it will do a directory, look at every part of the CD, but will not copy.
RedHat 9 is really old. Why not download its successor Fedora Core (latest being FC5)? Perhaps the issue is RH 9 doesn't have a driver that knows about your hardware.
RedHat has taken the RedHat name to its commercial products (e.g. RedHat AS 3) and supports Fedora for non-commercial offerings. That is to say most of what ends up in RedHat now comes from stuff initially offered in Fedora.
Well, I started with Fedora v5, and got about 5 minutes into the install and came up with an "unexpected exception" error, and the machine rebooted. Same with Fedora 4, and Shrike (v9) tells me it can't find any RedHat installation discs installed in either of my CDs (even though it's installing FROM an installation disc in the CD.) Psyche (v8) is the only one that would install. But now I'm having problems getting PHP to work with MySql.

I sure would love some help with this.
Thanks in advance

When you say you copied the ISO to the HD, you mean you copied the base and RPM directorys from all 3 discs to the hard drive, correct? Then, at the boot prompt from the first CD (or floppy) you used "linux askmethod" and speciefied hard drive install, correct?
Just trying to get some more information.
If it's a older Compaq Presario, I can see where you might have some weird problems with more than one distro.
I was finally able to get Red Hat v8 installed after much trial and error. I tried upgrading it to v9 without any success, nor would it upgrade to Fedora.
