question about downloading centOS 4.4

I am trying to download centOS 4.4/isos/ia64 and I wonder

ia64 means the operating system handles 64 bit architecture?

Also there are four .iso files which I assume correspond to four installation discs. But there is a bunch of other stuff with extensions .dvd, .torrent, etct. Are these important too?

IA-64 is Intel Itanium. x86-64 is AMD64 (Sempron64, Athlon64, Opteron).
Your other questions are covered in the README.
