How can I make my red hat 9 linux to load in text mode, cause when installing it I chose graphical because last time I installed it KDE wouldnt work. Peace and thanks in advance
well in the last step in the installation you must choose text mode....you even mentioned that YOU chose graphical mode the last time, so this time just choose text which is the (only) option directly below graphical...
there is only two bulleted options
- Graphical Mode
- Text Mode
so you will put the bullet selection beside text mode...
no man, I already installed it and I chose graphical, so I wonder how to make it to start in text mode ( if there is a file to edit or where from to configure it in X ... ).
As root, just edit your inittab file (located at /etc). There should be a line like this:
id:5:initdefault:
Just change the 5 to 3 and reboot. You should be at the prompt then. To launch X from there (if you want to) just type:
startx
well be clearer when you speak then....you said KDE wouldn't work after installation, so i thought you had to re-install and you somehow didn't know how to make it boot to text mode in the installation......
and i guaruntee many others thought the same....otherwise it wouldn't of took a complete day to receive the "answer you wanted to hear" ... for a question such as this... but once you said what the problem actually was, your question was answerd..
