All X configuration is in
/etc/X11/xorg.conf. If you want to configure things manually, then the tool to use is called '
vi'. No RPMs required (assuming you already have X installed). There is a tool called xvidtune, which is probably unneeded unless you are experiencing odd distortions of the video image. Not recommended for newbies.
I can't help you with Gnome.
