Manul X Server configuration in RHEL


Dears,

I want to confiugre the X Window and the Gnome GUI. manually. now don't know from where to start. any sugattions. how many RPMS are required. and are there any tools to configure it.

All X configuration is in /etc/X11/xorg.conf. If you want to configure things manually, then the tool to use is called 'vi'. No RPMs required (assuming you already have X installed). There is a tool called xvidtune, which is probably unneeded unless you are experiencing odd distortions of the video image. Not recommended for newbies.

I can't help you with Gnome.

I think the X11 directory containing the xorg.conf file comes from some RPM. to make my question more clear if I don't install the XWindow and the GNOME while installing my system. and after installing my system if I want to install the XServer and the GNOME GUI interface. how many RPMS do I need. And what are the tools the tools to use. I really want to do it for my experiance and practicing purpose some one could ask me .............. why i don't install it while installation of my pc. well I want to move things manually.
if some one could help I will be really really happy
